Qualcomm releases Linux developer preview for the Snapdragon X2 Series

Qualcomm has released an “Early Developer Preview” of Linux for the Snapdragon X2 Armv9 family of laptop SoCs. This release is meant for distribution maintainers, toolchain developers, kernel contributors, and hardware enablement engineers. New Qualcomm processors for mobile PCs (that’s what Qualcomm calls laptops) usually target Windows only. We get comments asking about Linux support on most of these posts, but Qualcomm’s history with maintaining Linux is rather mixed. For instance, they demonstrated Debian 12 and Linux upstreaming for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite SoC in collaboration with Linaro in 2024, but based on comments I’ve read, support is incomplete and not to the level you’d get on x86 targets. Maybe it will be different for the Snapdragon X2 Series.
