NXP has just launched the FRDM-IMXRT1186, a development board based on the i.MX RT1186 crossover MCU for industrial automation, robotics, PLCs, and edge computing applications. The MCU uses a heterogeneous architecture with an 800 MHz Arm Cortex-M7 core for application processing and a 300 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 core for real-time control and communications. The board includes 64 Mbit HyperRAM, 512 Mbit HyperFlash, and 128 Mbit QSPI Flash, along with two Gigabit Ethernet ports for TSN switching and two Fast Ethernet ports for EtherCAT or TSN switching. It also features a USB Type-C OTG port and a CAN transceiver, while debugging is supported through an on-board MCU-Link debugger and JTAG connector. For expansion, the board includes Arduino UNO R3 and FRDM headers, a FlexSPI follower header, an SRAMC header, and motor-control headers.
