Malcolm-Jamal Wilson has launched the WLV-01, a fully hackable DIY digital camera built around a Raspberry Pi 5. Designed for hardware tinkerers and photography enthusiasts, the camera features swappable full-spectrum color and true monochrome sensors ranging from 1/1.2-inch to Micro Four Thirds (M4/3), and offers a simple manual shooting experience. The camera uses a manual Sony E-mount and supports various lens options through adapters, including C-mount, M-mount, M42, Nikon F, Pentax K, Canon FD, and Leica M. For the IMX585 model, the mounting plate supports both C- and E-mount lenses, while Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds mounts are available as optional add-ons. Other hardware features include a 4-inch DSI display, standard 18650 battery cells, a 3D-printed body, and support for focal reducers, helicoids, and speed boosters.
